#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils Watercolor and Colored Pencil "At the Sunflower Farm"

At Buttonwood Farm in the sunflower field. Colored Pencils over watercolor in Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Journal.

Sitting on a hill overlooking the field. A crowd of Vietnamese visitors between my sketching spot and the flowers.

Sketching people practice. I wish I had captured a few visitors as they stood among the sunflower stalks taking pictures!

#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils Watercolor Pencils/Dippy Method/Color Swatches

#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils Homework for Colored Pencils: Sharpen Your Skills Kourse over at SketchbookSkool.com. More playing: Faber-Castell Aquarelle watercolor pencils on Canson XL Bristol Smooth 100 lbs paper in a spiral journal. Color swatches and a test doodle.

Never painted with watercolor pencils this way before. So fun! The colors really pop. Just dip the pencil tip in the water and paint/draw. Must try some more sketches.

What's on my mind? September 16 and 17, 2018 Optimism

What's on my mind?

Can you see the positive in your present situation?

Or is this your outlook on life?

September 16th: the last Sunday of summer and it's sunny!

"Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet."
Roger Miller

September 17th: Remnants of Hurricane Florence today.

Ink and watercolor in my Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

September 4, 2018 Tuesday is "Mars"day.

What's on my mind?

It's Tuesday evening. The bright red "star" in the southeast sky is actually the planet Mars. Mars in the sign of energy, action, and desire.

A soul just new to the world today will be active, brave, enthusiastic, inpatient, courageous, and sometimes just a bit too fiery!

Full spread. Watercolor and Micron pen in my Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

#30Pages30Days Page 26 March 26 Sktchy Challenge: Ink, Wash, Repeat.

This one is for Cathy.

From an old black and white photo that I took of my little sister many years ago. Elegant Writer pen, brush, and water in Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

I like the way that the Elegant Writer reacts to water by releasing blues, greens, and pinks.

#30Pages30Days Page 23 March 23 I am not responsible for this sketch.

I have it in writing from the doctor! I had a procedure done and the take home paper said "don't conduct any important business" (Does the Sktchy Challenge qualify?) or "operate any dangerous equipment" (I'm sure that means using colored pencils.) due to "lack of coordination caused by medications administered during the procedure."

Not really an art process video because I couldn't be held accountable for not turning the camera back on after it automatically shut off:

#30Pages30Days Sktchy Challenge Page 10 March 10 Draw directly with ink.

#30Pages30Days
Page 10 March 10
Amelia Sweetheart

"A portrait is a painting in which something is wrong with the mouth." John Singer Sargent  But.....

"You can paint over the black ink lines with gouache!" Roz Stendahl  Amelia's mouth before and then after, gouache.

Sktchy Challenge to draw directly in ink. I did. "If you go wrong - leave the line and carry on." Anita Davies I did, for a while, and then I returned to those wrong lines and painted the suckers OUT.

Since I don't have an iPhone and therefore, don't have a Sktchy App, I sketched from this photo of my grandniece while waiting for an appointment at the doctor's office. I only had 10 or 15 minutes, and I WAS trying to observe and carefully place my lines, but the mouth and chin just got away from me.

I thought I could "fix" the problem when I added watercolor. All I could say at this point was: Egads!

But with patience and gouache... I got a result that I could be happy with. Ink, watercolor, and gouache in my Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

Watch the process!

#30Pages30Days Page 9 March 9 and Sktchy Challenge Friday Face

#30Pages30Days Sktchy Challenge Page 9 March 9 and Sktchy Friday Face. 30minutes or less. Koh-I-Noor Tri-Tone Colored Pencils in Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

Color swatches and names of pencils used in the portrait.

Each Tri-Tone pencil has three different colors in its lead, something like the larger "Magic Pencils".  You have to forget about control and just have fun!

Still not sure I like the texture on these "hot press" pages in the Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

Today's challenge encourages the use of a sketchbook as a playground to try new things. I found these Derwent Drawing Pencils in the closet. I must have had them for at least 10 years and they have never seen the inside of a sharpener so you know I haven't used them much! The colors are: Chinese White, Brown Ochre, Sanguine, Sepia (red), Chocolate, and Ivory Black. Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

Differences that I found between these pencils and "colored" pencils are:  1. these pencils seem waxy but they do not cover as smoothly as Prismacolors and 2. these pencils will erase, if not completely, at least enough to cover with area with a different color.

Please check out my first "voice over" art process video. I've been making these videos for a few months, teaching myself how to film, edit, and upload. And now, how to do voice over.

Why? The Viewers have spoken!  Speed is better than normal and narration is better than music. They want to hear the artist and the thought process. Hmmm, thought process?

#DannyGregoryQuotes #3DaysinParsippany #WhereTheLadyGotHerGaga

It was November 3rd
and with her Dia de Muertos face paint
which she applied after watching a
Theodore Bradley video,
looking a bit the worse for wear
after having it on for 3 days
because she couldn't find her makeup remover,
Stefani stepped off of the bus from NYC
which was costing her quite a bit of cash
whereas if she had been a resident of Parsippany
she could have just rode to the music studio
on the free transit system but oh no,
she just didn't want to relocate to New Jersey
so therefore had to put out the coins
for a daily bus ride during which
she did look a bit odd that day
wearing the skeleton suit which had been
appropriate attire the day before
though she hadn't time to change,
anyway it was much better than wearing
just slabs of meat which might have been
a bit of a problem what with the
local coyotes and black bears
that roamed Highway 287 that autumn
and as she walked across the parking lot
to the studio there was a small crowd
which had gathered around the storm drain
to smoke and flip their cigarette butts down into
and with no exception
everyone that watched her pass by
opened their mouths and spouted "gag-gag"
though I think they were actually trying
to say something besides
that which was later shortened to "gaga".

Urban Sketching in Boyertown... and Tree # 136

Samara and Andrew performing at Walnut Woods Retirement Living in Boyertown. Spent too much time sketching Samara - didn't have time to finish Andrew. Note: I did adjust Samara's skin tone when I got home.

Egads! Buildings and people, people and buildings. I'll get the hang of it (Urban Sketching). At least there's lots of trees in the city.

Birch tree study done on N. Walnut Ave., Boyertown. Tree #136/10,000.

Oh, you know, when he gives you THAT LOOK...

A haughty look that only a swan can give you...

With the teachers at the summer Literacy Institute at Millersville University nature journaling at the pond behind the library.

The pond is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a wildlife habitat because it provides food, water, cover, and places to raise young.

Journaling Jean sitting on the bridge and struggling to draw the serpentine neck of a swan.

Oh, Good! A new skill to work on: painting reflections in water.

Blessed to have 10,000 things to draw.
