Winter Apples
What kind of apples do you eat? I love "theallsorts".
All sorts of apples! My favorite is the Honeycrisp! It's PLU (price look-up code) is 3283. This sweet and firm eating apple was released in 1991 from Minnesota.
#4147 is the Jonagold - a cross between the Jonathan and the Golden Delicious.
The Cortland #4106 has been around since 1898!
Stay tuned! There are over 7,500 cultivars of apples!

An Extra Treat for TiTi Today!
Titi kept jumping up on the bed. Not
her usual “let's see if I can sneak as softly as I can onto the
foot of the bed and curl up next to someone's foot in the middle of
the night” manner , but bouncing on my legs as hard as she could.
After she was shooshed off numerous times, she boldly jumped up and
sat right next to my head. Again, I put her off of the bed, and again
and again she continued to jump up. This behavior was definitely not
her pattern. “What is up with this cat?” I wondered now fully
awake. And now that I was awake, I heard a faint beeping. On and off.
Every minute or so. An alarm? Too faint for the smoke alarm which is
a blaring noise. By now Tom is awake, too. We get up to check it out.
On venturing into the basement after checking all of the rooms
upstairs, I discovered the source of the mysterious sound that the
cat was trying to alert me to. The smoke/CO2 alarm was quietly
beeping and stating in a calm woman's voice that the battery was low.
No crisis, but thankful to my cat who tried to wake me when was
something was amiss!
An extra treat for Titi today!

#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils If I was in charge of naming seaweed...
I sketched in the sun, sand, and salty sea spray. Prismacolor Premier colored pencils and watercolor in Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Journal.
As I walked along the shoreline enjoying the feel of the waves, I discovered many different kinds of seaweed. I made mental notes of each kind along with a fun name to help me remember what it looked like.
Back at the beach blanket, I sketched Tom as he went into the waves, and decorated the page with my algal findings.

#MyCanterburyCoddiwomples #The100DayProject Day 52 Jack-in-the-Pulpit
Day 52 of #The100DayProject. I searched the lower wet woods until I found "Jack". Considering the environment, I knew there just had to be some arum species about somewhere.
With the Jack-in-the-Pulpit, size and environmental conditions determine the sex of the plant. This means the plant may be male this year but female next year. The larger plants are usually female.

#MyCanterburyCoddiwomples #The100DayProject Day 51 Wild Geraniums
Day 51 of #The100DayProject. Pretty lavender Cranesbill (Geranium maculatum) flowers blooming along the lane.
This wild geranium is a native in the Eastern US woodlands.

#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils COW ALERT! For a good cause...
Take the Hay Ride at Buttonwood Farm to meet the friendly Red Angus cows. Colored pencil over watercolor in my Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Journal.
If you love to be surrounded by sunflowers, this ride also stops in the center of the flower field. The farm's Sunflowers for Wishes program donates all of their proceeds to the Make A Wish Foundation. This year they raised almost $125,o00!
After the ride get some delicious farm fresh ice cream. And buy a bouquet of flowers for a good cause!

Colored Pencil Sunflowers in the Sketchbook Skool Student Bulletin
I shared a comparison of two sunflower pictures, one from about a year ago in Pennsylvania, and another recently done at a farm in Connecticut with my Sketchbook Skool community.
The smaller older one was done with watercolor and pen and the newer one on the right was done with watercolor and colored pencils after taking Sketchbook Skool's Colored Pencils: Sharpen Your Skills Kourse.
I love the looseness of this version! I enjoyed the mark making with the pencils over the watercolors. So fun!

#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils Watercolor and Colored Pencil "At the Sunflower Farm"
At Buttonwood Farm in the sunflower field. Colored Pencils over watercolor in Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Journal.
Sitting on a hill overlooking the field. A crowd of Vietnamese visitors between my sketching spot and the flowers.

#MyCanterburyCoddiwomples #The100DayProject Day #48 What was that?
Walking through the woods, movement underfoot! What's that? I think it was a garter snake!

#MyCanterburyCoddiwomples #The100DayProject Day # 47 Turtle in the Road!
Found a 2 inch hatchling Painted Turtle, in the road by the mailbox. I picked it up and set it down in the woods facing the pond.
Chrysemys picta, a pond turtle, is the most widespread turtle in North America. Fossil records indicate that the Painted Turtle has been around for 15 million years!

#MyCanterburyCoddiwomples #The100DayProject Day #46 "KERPLOP!"
A heavy piece of machinery drove through part of the woods leaving two wide sunken tracks that have filled with water because the drainage is very poor. While walking by I heard a "Kerplop!". Definitely a frog, didn't see enough to identify the species. Perhaps a wood frog?

#MyCanterburyCoddiwomples #The100DayProject Day #45 A Flutter of White Wings...
Today it's about the little white butterflies flying up the left side of the page so stop looking at the cute little Painted Turtle hatchling!
Didn't know that Pieris rapae was an accidentally introduced to North America from Europe or Asia species. It can be quite pesky in some agricultural areas.
