#SBSColoredPencils #PlaysWithPencils "I choose truth over facts...." (August 2019)

Inspired by a sculpture I saw this past weekend at the Mystic Art Festival.

The truth of this image is definitely more compelling than any fact.

#30Pages30Days Page 27 March 27 The Carrot Tree

While watching the movie "Australia" I fell in love with some strange looking trees that reminded me of carrots sticking up out of the ground. I did some research and discovered that they are called "Boab" trees.

I thought that it would be a lovely compliment to the coffee camel with Easter bunny ears on the opposite page.

Strange Meteorology...

The road to Lancaster on November 19, 2016 was bright with azure skies. As I descended in altitude from the hills above Oley to the lower lying farmland in Amish Country, the temperature rose. The thermometer joyfully proclaimed 72 degrees.

There were trees along the way that had yet to give up their leaves of red, yellow and gold.

But during the afternoon the sky turned an unfriendly shade of gray.

And the wind kicked up and the oak leaves in front of the Museum flew. The temperature plummeted.

By 9pm the white stuff started to fall! A day of shorts and snow shovels.

Two Turnips and a Pig...

Sketching in the Kitchen with Kay November 18, 2016, Walnut Woods, Boyertown.

Kay had these turnips for awhile and when they began to sprout, they became our still life to sketch.

My mantra that day was "No black lines, no black lines, no black lines, no black lines....." just to see what would happen without them. I always feel the NEED to add those black lines. I feel like it is something I MUST do to finish the sketch. I NEVER just let the picture be. Well, never say never. Art and Oatmeal with Peaches: Winter Squash

It's the beginning of the fall harvest and the last of the peach harvest at the Farmer's Market.

I'm going to miss the fresh peaches but the HoneyCrisp Apples are ready to eat!

So much play with this squash it took 2 breakfast sessions to complete!

Oh, Lookie here, see what I won!

Tom gave me the special "Blue Sticker Award for Best Tomatoes Sketched while Eating Oatmeal with Peaches".

Instead of not sketching on days that I have to leave the house early, I'm attempting to work faster while I eat.

I'm using the Lamy again. Yes, I remembered that the ink will wash.

I "heart" Tomato

Art and Oatmeal with Peaches and a Tomato, Redux.

Scroll and read or click on the video!

It all started when I picked this heart shaped tomato from the bucket. We don't have a vegetable garden. We have a bucket with a tomato plant in it. Ya'd think with 9 acres of land, we would find somewhere to plant a tomato.

Then at breakfast I decided that I needed to draw the wonderful heart shaped tomato.

The last time I drew a tomato on a plate, the plate was wonky. Here I am trying to figure out the ellipse of the plate by drawing it through the tomato.  Note: the plate is upside down.

Oatmeal finished and I have a watercolor of a heart-shaped tomato on an upside down plate. But hey, there's still some orange juice left and the red on the page is not as tomato-y as I would like it...

So I grabbed some Tombow watercolor markers and got jiggy with them.

Hmmm, lost the whites. The plate is wonky. Colors running everywhere. Life is good. And so is lunch.

So at lunch, I started again. This time I did not add Sharpie to the drawing right away which is what I did at breakfast.

I used watercolors and tried to save the whites for highlights. Then I picked up the Sharpie because nothings finished until I've made some marks with a pen.

I added some journaling about my process.

And called it done.
