#30Pages30Days Sktchy Challenge Page 2 March 2 and Friday Face

#30Pages30Days Page 2 March 2
Sktchy Challenge
Sktchy Friday Face
30 minutes

Today's challenge encourages the use of a sketchbook as a playground to try new things. I found these Derwent Drawing Pencils in the closet. I must have had them for at least 10 years and they have never seen the inside of a sharpener so you know I haven't used them much! The colors are: Chinese White, Brown Ochre, Sanguine, Sepia (red), Chocolate, and Ivory Black. Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.

Differences that I found between these pencils and "colored" pencils are:  1. these pencils seem waxy but they do not cover as smoothly as Prismacolors and 2. these pencils will erase, if not completely, at least enough to cover with area with a different color.

Please check out my first "voice over" art process video. I've been making these videos for a few months, teaching myself how to film, edit, and upload. And now, how to do voice over.

Why? The Viewers have spoken!  Speed is better than normal and narration is better than music. They want to hear the artist and the thought process. Hmmm, thought process?

One Drawing a Day (the book) - Day 26 - Clouds

More clouds! The clouds today were moving very quickly. Wind gusts 40 to 60 mph at ground level. The wind must have blown a tree or branch onto the power lines because our electricity went out for about 90 minutes. Derwent Sketching dark wash 8B pencil in Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Journal.

Yay! I got a new pencil for Christmas and I drew two owlets...

Nature Journaling at the North Museum, Lancaster, PA with Carol and Connie. Santa put several art goodies in my stocking last Christmas and one was a Kimberly 9XXB pencil. I used the pencil for the first time to sketch these two Great Horned Owlets.

The pencil is wonderfully large and chunky. It makes dark marks that are not too shiny. You can create great texture with multiple layers of scribbling.

Met Connie, fellow Sketchbook Skool Skolar, for the first time in person! So happy to meet an Art Friend from Skool.

Connie is busy sketching from one of the many 100+ year old bird specimens at the museum. The table is set up with art supplies so anyone visiting the museum can sit and join in the journaling fun!

Looking over Connie's shoulder watching her work. You can see one of the Great Horned Owlets in the case.

So blessed to be able to share our sketchbooks and enjoy each other's creativity!

Looking forward to another Sketch-Meet-Up!
