Neocolor II Crayons (Limited Edition Spring Soft Pastel Colors Set) and Black Sakura Glaze Pen in Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.
Love the shine and dimension of the black Sakura Glaze Pen. Maybe some people would call it "glare", but I like it! The nib is a bit on the thicker side and that makes it harder to do fine details when tangling. I just keep that in mind when thinking of a design and it usually works out.
At the last moment I felt the urge to put some graphite shading on the eggs using a pencil and a stump.
From an old black and white photo that I took of my little sister many years ago. Elegant Writer pen, brush, and water in Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.
I like the way that the Elegant Writer reacts to water by releasing blues, greens, and pinks.
Decided to sketch a camel after watching "Lawrence of Arabia". The camels in the movie reminded me of the Cadbury Easter Egg commercial in which a llama is one of the animals that audition for the part of the Easter Bunny.
The llama was wearing Easter Bunny ears, so I added pink ones to the sketch. Coffee, watercolor, and Micron Pen in Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.
I watched a Sktchy Artist paint with coffee and just had to experiment! Snagged some of Tom's morning coffee and boiled in down to make the coffee ink.
I put the ink in this ceramic jar that my friend Carol gave me.
While watching the movie "Australia" I fell in love with some strange looking trees that reminded me of carrots sticking up out of the ground. I did some research and discovered that they are called "Boab" trees.
I thought that it would be a lovely compliment to the coffee camel with Easter bunny ears on the opposite page.

Flipping through my old ProArt spiral bound sketchbooks. Lots of notes, but the pages do get more colorful with many pages of "Breakfast Blooms" in colored pencil.
I have it in writing from the doctor! I had a procedure done and the take home paper said "don't conduct any important business" (Does the Sktchy Challenge qualify?) or "operate any dangerous equipment" (I'm sure that means using colored pencils.) due to "lack of coordination caused by medications administered during the procedure."

Not really an art process video because I couldn't be held accountable for not turning the camera back on after it automatically shut off:
This is suppose to be a baby possum, but to me it looks more like a porcupine. Studying "using stamps as design elements". This looks more like an "element" than a design.
This is Patty Possum. NOT to be confused with Possum Patty. This was a fun exercise even if I spent over a half an hour just trying to get the Speedball carver blades changed and resorted to just grabbing the blade and carving without the handle! AND the old blades must be very dull because it felt like trying to carve rubbery, stretchy pink bubblegum.
Sktchy Challenge: I think learning to pre-plan is part of developing a daily sketching practice.
Before going to a doctor's appointment, I splashed some bright watercolors on a page in my Jane Davenport Canvas Journal. I threw the journal and a handful of Derwent ColourSoft Pencils into my purse and headed out.
I decided to use the digestive system as an inspiration for the doodle since that was why I was at the doctor's.
I only had a short wait, so I finished the doodle at home. I labeled the the different areas as parts of the digestive system with a Micron Pen.
I had received a brochure at the office which served as the source for the little white rabbit collage element. My favorite line from the medical material was "Artistic Rendition. Not a True Representation..." so I included that at the bottom of the page. The molecular formula was copied from the brochure with a Pentel Brush Pen.
Film-age shot between the first cloud thumbnail journal page and the second one. Thoughts on last year's cloud sketches some of which I like and others that I do not!
Sktchy Challenge: working with thumbnails to plan larger pieces of art.
Top sketch was done with Conte Crayon on gray gouache, second sketch was painted with Derwent Graphtint Pencils. Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.
Today's cloud lessons: *Clouds have a horizon just as the land does. *If the land is low the cloud horizon is above the land. *If you have to look up at the land (mountain), the cloud base can be behind it. *The best way to paint a cloud is to block in the masses of light and dark. *Avoid outlines! *And don't forget the light source.
This cloud page has "store bought" and hand made collage elements and stamps. The red clouds were painted 50 years ago when I was in high school and the stamp was made yesterday.

Sktchy Challenge: composing a journal page.
Not my usual color scheme! Personal journaling and collage in Jane Davenport Canvas Journal.
Egads! I just ripped up a page that I had been saving for 50 years! Oh, my. Watch it here!
It's the first day of spring and I am sitting here looking out the window at the snow flying by! We are preparing for our 4th Nor'easter this month of March. I wanted to do a quick journal page to remember the day.
I chose a Lion to represent the Nor'easter Storm since "March comes in like a lion." And the March Hare to depict how the spring keeps getting chased off.

Margaret tightly gripped the sturdy blue pole as Muriel glanced out from under the old worn crazy quilt. That night several inches of newly fallen snow covered the ground, but the fresh young leaves of the daffodil that had sprung up in the warmth of the February sun, were snug in the blanket shelter. It was important to the gnomes to protect the secret hidden in the tender bulb just inches below them in the fertile soil.

During the video about the making of The Gnome Baby, I explain how the baby got into the daffodil bulb. Watch here!
